Lifestyle Photography refers to a photographer taking pictures in a natural environment that would be similar to a daily routine. These sessions would occur in someone's home. Event photography is similar to lifestyle photography in that most pictures are taken as they occur as opposed to posed photography. I tend to like to capture the eyes of an individual and I don't like to capture a lot of distractions from the background. I guess you could say that lifestyle and event photography are a bit harder for me to wrap my brain around. Even at a birthday party in December, I took more portrait type pictures than simply capturing the event. I think that is just my natural bent. When this little lady came to see me, her grandmother seemed to want more natural photos of her. I am so in the routine of posey pose and sit here, look this way, I need a smile...It was a bit of an effort to relax and just capture her as she played and made faces. I found though that I really enjoyed it and was able to see her personality more during the session. Even though this was a studio session, I tried to capture lil Ms. C in her more natural state instead of posing her so much. She definitely has a lot of personality to shine through. So to take this thought even further, I have decided that I would like to do more lifestyle type sessions. Since I do a lot of studio type work, I would like to create a more relaxed environment and allow people to pose and shine for who they are...so incorporate a more natural and less posed style to my work. So come on in, make yourself at home, and relax a bit...so who you really are shines through your photos!

I just <3 photographing newborns! It is just like capturing such innocence and purity! Look at this wide eyed guy! Having sleepy newborns are easier to pose but capturing those big bright eyes is just as special. I love capturing little ones at the newborn stage and all baby milestones so that moment in time can be remembered...each stage is precious. I love any and all ideas from parents! This little guy's mama liked the nest prop so we worked it into her session. I have tons of props but always want you all to bring things as well. I try to have some things set up so we can move from one backdrop to the next fairly smoothly. But we can always change things up and I always want you to have a say in props, colors, etc. These are your memories and I want you to love them! Please spread the word about Shoot for Five to any expecting mamas! Or mamas that have babies! They can start capturing those first years memories at any time.
