One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is being able to capture special moments, the essence of relationships, and the personality or soul of a person. Some of the best photos are not all smiling straight at the camera but capturing interaction that tells a story. Whether it be a family session, where it is important to capture the relationships within that family or a milestone session, in a milestone session the goal is to capture the look and the developmental stage of the kiddo. Sometimes I go overboard and want to keep snapping pictures and snap a few more. I just don't want to miss anything ;) What a pleasure it has been this last year and some change to be involved in meeting so many great folks and be able to capture special moments for them.

Mr. L arrived 5 weeks early and mama wasn't able to get maternity pictures done in time. He was such a little peanut but was able to come home fairly quickly and came to see me at 14 days new! I think when they are early they tend to still need a lot of sleep. He slept like a dream through the whole session. Newborn photography can be challenging but I love it. Maybe because I always love a challenge! Or maybe because I need newborn baby snuggles :) Thanks for visiting me Mr. L for newborn photos and I would love to watch you grow! Watch this little man ROAR! Oh how I love to photograph maternity, newborn, and babies! Lil Miss here, I had the privilege to photograph her mom and family when she was in her tummy. Then I was able to master my first "frog" pose with Ms. M. She also visited me at 3 months old and 6 months. Now look at this big girl! Crawling and standing! It is amazing to watch them grow and capture just a small memory of this stage in their development. How I look forward to seeing her at her 1yr session and cake smash! I am sure she will be running by then! I offer milestone packages which include 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, and 1yr which includes cake smash. Would love to capture from belly to a year for you and your little one!! Lifestyle Photography refers to a photographer taking pictures in a natural environment that would be similar to a daily routine. These sessions would occur in someone's home. Event photography is similar to lifestyle photography in that most pictures are taken as they occur as opposed to posed photography. I tend to like to capture the eyes of an individual and I don't like to capture a lot of distractions from the background. I guess you could say that lifestyle and event photography are a bit harder for me to wrap my brain around. Even at a birthday party in December, I took more portrait type pictures than simply capturing the event. I think that is just my natural bent. When this little lady came to see me, her grandmother seemed to want more natural photos of her. I am so in the routine of posey pose and sit here, look this way, I need a smile...It was a bit of an effort to relax and just capture her as she played and made faces. I found though that I really enjoyed it and was able to see her personality more during the session. Even though this was a studio session, I tried to capture lil Ms. C in her more natural state instead of posing her so much. She definitely has a lot of personality to shine through. So to take this thought even further, I have decided that I would like to do more lifestyle type sessions. Since I do a lot of studio type work, I would like to create a more relaxed environment and allow people to pose and shine for who they are...so incorporate a more natural and less posed style to my work. So come on in, make yourself at home, and relax a bit...so who you really are shines through your photos! I just <3 photographing newborns! It is just like capturing such innocence and purity! Look at this wide eyed guy! Having sleepy newborns are easier to pose but capturing those big bright eyes is just as special. I love capturing little ones at the newborn stage and all baby milestones so that moment in time can be remembered...each stage is precious. I love any and all ideas from parents! This little guy's mama liked the nest prop so we worked it into her session. I have tons of props but always want you all to bring things as well. I try to have some things set up so we can move from one backdrop to the next fairly smoothly. But we can always change things up and I always want you to have a say in props, colors, etc. These are your memories and I want you to love them! Please spread the word about Shoot for Five to any expecting mamas! Or mamas that have babies! They can start capturing those first years memories at any time.
Little Ms. B was such a doll!! She was a bit restless at the beginning of the session then at the end she was out like a light. Congrats to the Noe family on your beautiful daughter! I absolutely love photographing newborns! I have no idea what the draw or fascination could be but it sure is there! I enjoy children and families but newborns have a special place in my heart. Newborns have such a unique look and detailed features that they outgrow so quickly. Don't forget that you can't go back in time...capture those memories! Even when they are a month, 3mos, 6mos...they change so fast! Have those captured in photographs! Newborns are best photographed within the first 14 days since they are the sleepiest. The sleepier the better so that you can put them into sweet and fun poses. It is also helpful to keep them up a bit before their session and feed them once you arrive. Would love any referrals to pregnant mamas! Shoot for Five Photography was named for my 5 lovely children! Someone thought it meant that I was shooting to be a 5 star photographer. That's a cool thought but it really means that all that I do, I do for these guys! I started a photography biz because I love taking pics and to make extra money to stay home with those 5 monkeys in the pic. I home educate them and the extra money from this biz helps to make ends meet and I can do it with them involved! Aren't they super stars?
Ok so I had a wild hair to head to Newport News today to shop and scope out the park after a night of work....so at this point as I write this blog, I have been awake about 29 hours :/ Actually I am fairing well and am about to conk out. I would rather have spent the day the way I did instead of me sleeping and shhhhhing my kids quiet.
So I hit a few stores for props and YARN!! Here is a sneak peak! I love all the bright colors! I'm thinking our spring photoshoots will be nice and colorful! Here's hoping that spring gets here soon! Don't forget to book your Easter mini session or family special...info located on the home page. We also checked out Newport News park! I give it a 3 thumbs up for a photo shoot location! We'll have mini sessions there soon...stay tuned for that info! Hope you had a great day....offffff to dreamyland! |
